2002-03. AJ Project
“The Austria X Japan Dance & Performance Exchange Programme; Yokohama (2002), Vienna, Budapest and Prague (2003)”
AJ Project is an exchange programme in the fields of contemporary dance and performance between Austria and Japan in the years 2002 and 2003. It is based on the idea and planning of Akemi Takeya (JAP/A, performer), Anna Thier, dietheater Wien (A, venue) and Noriko Kumagai (JAP, choreographer, dancer). The co-operation between Austrians (performers and dancers) and Japanese (dancers and musicians) takes place in both countries in several steps.
The AJ-Project is realised by the support of the city of Vienna, the Austrian embassy in Tokyo, the Japan Foundation, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Number 1 and dietheater Wien.
Step 1: December 9 – 19 2002 Yokohama

The Austrian dancers and performers Akemi Takeya (JAP/A), Daniel Aschwanden, Milli Bitterli, Saskia Hölbling and Paul Wenninger met with the Japanese dancers Noriko Kumagai, Un Yamada, Mitsutake Kasai, Erika Nowada, Masato Kunieda, Hiroaki Umeda, Chico Katsube, Makiko Itoh, and with the Japanese musicians Tetsuo Furudate, Tomomi Adachi and the group Erehwon: Raita Ishikawa + Mitsushiro Hiruma.
1 week – of joined “Creation” which lead in two Japanese-Austrian „impro.jams“ – of workshops by the Austrian artists
2 performance nights with solo works of the Austrian artists.
