In her characteristic mixture of power and fragility, Takeya demonstrates how strongly all of our lives are determined by formative influences and how far a character is shaped by their moderation.
This piece is a performative ritual in which Akemi Takeya becomes the medium of herself and makes contact with artists who have influenced her over the years, including Diamanda Galas, Laurie Anderson, Yoko Ono and Nina Simone. Like a multiple collage of her artistic work, Takeya, together with dancer Evandro Pedroni and percussionist Didi Kern, sets out in search of the magic of language and noise: meditative and expressive, spiritual and analytical, in search of the power inherent in every word, every sound.
